Drunken Parrot Tree (schotia brachypetala)

Radiant bright red, nectar-filled flowers sometimes drip and overflow attracting tons of butterflies and hummingbirds in a flurry of activity while in bloom. The highly attractive tree, in its native habitat, is highly prized for the subsequent hanging pods with multiple seeds, that are picked green, roasted and eaten or brewed as a hot beverage. A handsome, medium to large tree with a wide-spreading, densely branched, rounded crown, it prefers a position in full sun where is can slowly grow to about 40 -50 feet. Parrot Tree is an exceptional ornamental tree.
